Aussies say research backs up sand dredging decision

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in Australia says its decision to approve the extraction of 15 million cubic metres of sand from the Moreton Bay Marine Park is based on years of research.

According to local press reports, Caloundra city councillor and a former member of the Beach Protection Authority, Andrew Champion, has voiced concerns the sand dredging would result in a loss of sand from Sunshine Coast beaches.
