Dredging to begin on Lake Griffin canals

A two-year, taxpayer-funded $7.2 million project to clear out dozens of private canals surrounding Lake Griffin is ready to begin. Crews have worked for months to prepare miles of plastic pipeline and barges needed to pull off the largest effort ever handled by the Lake County Water Authority. The agency had a formal kickoff last week, but the dredging — the biggest phase of the enormous undertaking — isn’t expected to get under way until later this month.
