Caterpillar confirms oil

Lundin Petroleum has a new field development on its hands after finding oil with the Caterpillar prospect well in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.

Lundin said the 24/9-10S well and 24/9-10A sidetrack in PL340 BS about 31 kilometres (19 miles) from the Alvheim FPSO – in what the company calls the Greater Luno area – was an oil find with reserves put at between five and 12 million barrels of oil equivalent. The reservoir was encountered in an upper Paleocene Hermod formation.
