Port to start building rail-barge transfer facility

The Port of Everett will hold a groundbreaking ceremony at 11 a.m. tomorrow to start work on a rail-barge transfer facility that will serve Boeing production at Paine Field.

The project is expected to be completed in spring.

The facility will be used to move oversize cargo such as large aerospace parts that don’t fit into standard trucks or rail cars. After being unloaded by cranes, the cargo will be moved to Paine Field by rail.
