Kenya: KFS in Bid to Bypass Stalled Ferry Tender Worth $13.9 Million

The Kenya Ferry Services (KFS) may resort to the quotation system for the purchase of two new ferries estimated to cost Ksh1 billion ($13.9 million).

The ferry services provider for the Likoni channel has been in a dilemma for the last two years after a loser in the initial tender went to the procurement tribunal board to stop the process.

Now the Ministry of Finance and the Directorate of Procurement are said to be in negotiations to allow the quotation system to deal with the dilemma.

The firms that bid for the tender were Damen Shipyard of the Netherlands, Schiff Bau of Germany and the Mombasa-based African Marine and General Engineering Company.
