Taiwan Quick Take: Cargo ship sinks off Yunlin

A cargo ship sank off the coast of Yunlin yesterday after sideswiping a passing fishing boat, Coast Guard Administration (CGA) authorities reported. The Lungyun No. 3, a 601 tonne cargo vessel from Kaohsiung, sideswiped the fishing boat Hunghui, also from Kaohsiung, about 15 nautical miles (27.78km) off Yunlin’s Taitzu port at around 1am yesterday, according to Chiayi-based CGA officers. The Lungyun began to take on water from a large gash in its side soon after the crash, causing it to sink very quickly, the officers said.
