Hull & Humber heads for PSP Southampton Boat Show

The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race will be exhibiting at the PSP Southampton Boat Show between 18 and 21 September. Hull & Humber will be on display and visitors will have the chance to get onboard and look round one of the ten 68-foot ocean racing yachts that have now completed two circumnavigations in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. Visitors to the show, which runs from 12 to 21 September, can also find out about the wide range of Clipper Training courses on offer and enter a competition to win a week-long Big Boat Sailing course with Clipper Training.

Crews in the Clipper 07-08 Race represented 27 different nationalities – the most internationally and culturally diverse crew ever. Uniquely Singapore alone boasted 13 different nationalities among their crew; proof, if proof were needed, that the Clipper Race transcends cultural and national boundaries to bring together people with a single goal – to race around the world under sail.

With a year to go until the starting gun fires on the Humber on 13 September 2009, the Clipper 09-10 Race is already on course to beat this record, with people from 23 nations already accepted as crew for the seventh edition of the Clipper Race. Lithuania, Ireland, Canada, Switzerland, Croatia, Turkey, the USA and Spain are just a few of the countries represented and there is already a strong contingent of Aussies, raring to win back their crown and see the Clipper Trophy return Down Under.

David Cusworth, the Clipper Race’s crew recruitment manager is heading back to Australia in late September on a mission to find more Australians looking for the challenge of a lifetime.

David will begin his tour in Western Australia from 26 to 29 September with presentations at South Perth Yacht Club and Fremantle Sailing Club. From there he heads to Victoria, and will be in and around Melbourne from 1 to 3 October with presentations at Sandringham and Mornington Yacht Clubs. Sydney’s next on the itinerary from 4 to 6 October, including a presentation at CYCA, and finally up to Queensland and a two-day pitstop in Brisbane, from 6 to 8 October.

Anyone who’s interested in going along to see what the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race is all about, or would like to meet David face to face and speak to with him in more detail about what applying for a berth on the race entails can email [email protected] or call the Clipper Race office on +44 (0) 2392 526000.
