Hutchison Ports Thailand Reaches 15 Million TEU Milestone

Hong Kong-based port and terminal operator Hutchison Port Holdings said that 15 million TEUs of containerized cargo have passed through the company’s outpost in Thailand since the start of operations in 2002.

Hutchison Ports Thailand (HPT) organized an event at Terminal C1C2 in Laemchabang Port on October 21 to mark the milestone. The attendees witnessed the ceremonial loading of the 15 millionth TEU container onto OOCL’s container ship  M.V. Arica.

HPT is Thailand’s largest container terminal operator and is currently managing and operating Terminals A2, A3, C1 and C2 at Laemchabang Port with 15 quay cranes and 39 container yard cranes.

It will soon commence the construction of new deep water facilities at Terminals D1, D2 and D3 to meet the anticipated growth in Thailand’s economy.

Stephen Ashworth, Managing Director of HPT, said: “This is a significant milestone made possible by the passion and commitment of our employees. We will continue to improve the service we provide to our customers through further investments in equipment and technology and I have every confidence that we will be celebrating the next 15 million TEU in no time at all.”
