Hydro Group Showcases Subsea Connector at Subsea Tieback Forum in USA

Hydro Group Plc, a global design and manufacturer of underwater cables and connectors for subsea, underwater, topside and onshore applications, took a technological lead when it launched the 36KV Dry Mate connector into the offshore energy systems market last year.

Hydro Group Showcases Subsea Connector at Subsea Tieback Forum in USA

The Aberdeen, Scotland headquartered group aims to further penetrate the US energy market by showcasing the 36KV Dry Mate connector, along with the group’s extensive product offerings, at the Subsea Tieback Forum and Exhibition in San Antonio, Texas USA next month.

Doug Whyte, Hydro Group managing director, said: “The new connector is a significant advance on our previous product with an impressive reduction in installation time from 24 hours to less than 12 hours, and its ability to carry three times more power.

“Originally developed for the UK renewable market, the connector is being showcased at the Subsea Tieback to offer exhibition goers an insight into the heritage, expertise and technical innovation the team at Hydro Group possess and an opportunity to explore the many ways Hydro Group’s technological innovations can be adapted for the US market.”

Hydro Group’s cable and connectivity solutions are developed to withstand the harshest environmental conditions, including salt water, solar effects, storm force winds and dynamic tidal and wave motion. These factors place extreme loads on the subsea systems, connectors and cables, resulting in the company’s connectors being designed and manufactured for flexibility and environmental endurance.

Mr Whyte continued: “The team at Hydro Group are increasingly being asked for complex designs. Our engineers apply their extensive knowledge and expertise in materials and applications, developed over 30 years of manufacturing, to produce high quality products suited for their environment.”

With an extensive product range, Hydro Group takes the raw materials and manufactures products from start to finish in Scotland, before exporting globally.

Hydro Group’s current pioneering R&D program, includes trialling various low smoke flame retardant materials to address single cable designs capable of operating between separate boundaries from topside to subsea.

Hydro Group plc, subsea cable systems manufacturer, made up of Hydro Bond Engineering and HydroCable Systems Ltd, is a major global supplier of harsh environment engineered products to the offshore oil and gas, defence, oceanographic, renewable energies, diving and ROV/AUV markets.
