Hyundai Samho to build world's first LNG-fueled aframax quartet

Hyundai Heavy Industries’ unit, Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI), has been contracted to build the world’s first LNG-fueled aframax tankers for Russian shipper Sovcomflot.

The 114,000 DWT Ice-CLass IA aframax tankers, measuring 250 meters in length, 44 meters in width and 21 meters in height, are scheduled to be delivered from the third quarter of 2018 and to be chartered to Shell.

The order for the four vessels is valued at US$240 million, and speaking about the order of the LNG-fueled aframax tankers, an HSHI official added that the company intends to grab more orders for similar vessels.

According to the company’s statement, since 1989, Sovcomflot has ordered a total of 65 ships to be built by the Hyundai Heavy Industries Group.
