Image of the day: OpenHydro turbine ripe for polishing
OpenHydro’s tidal turbine, recently retrieved from the seabed off Brittany in France, has reached the coast of Cherbourg.
The turbine, recovered by OpenHydro’s parent company Naval Energies, has spent over a year submerged at the depth of 40 meters as part of the Paimpol-Bréhat tidal array demonstration project.
It was transported by Triskell barge from its demonstration site to Cherbourg for maintenance purposes.
Naval Energies/OpenHydro teams will replace the faulty components on both turbines of the array, before their redeployment to the Paimpol-Bréhat site.
Both turbines are 16 meters in diameter and have the capacity of 500kW each. The project is jointly developed by Naval Energies and EDF.
