India: Report of Working Group on Port Sector Still Under Consideration

The Minister of Shipping, Shri G.K. Vasan announced today that the Ministry has prepared the Report of the Working Group on Port Sector for 12th Five Year Plan and submitted the same to Planning Commission for consideration and approval.

The total outlay excluding Private Sector proposed for the port sector in the Ministry is Rs. 26021.64 crore of which the outlay for Major Ports is Rs. 22757.39 crore while the balance outlay projected is for Dredging Corporation of India, Andaman & Lakshadweep Harbour Works and Sethusamudram Corporation Ltd. etc.

The Minister further said that the report of the Working Group on Port Sector is still under consideration by the Planning Commission and hence details on investments and allocation can be stated only after the approval of the 12th Five Year Plan allocation by Planning Commission.

The private sector contribution as per Working Group Report on Port Sector for 12th Five Year Plan for Major Ports is proposed at Rs. 51036.56 crore, the Minister added.
