Unexploded Shell Found in Mumbai Harbour

An unexploded shell was found in Arabian Sea off Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) coast during the dredging project, reports indianexpress.com.

The discovery was made when a dredging vessel HAM-318 was engaged in dredging operations in the harbour when the unexploded projectile shell was found stuck to its drag head.

The ship informed harbour and JNPT sought assistance from Indian Navy for removal of the shell. A team of explosives experts led by commander Mukul Rathi was rushed. The shell was successfully removed and has been sent for further analysis and safe disposal,” stated a defence spokesperson.

The shell was 40 cm long, had a 10-cm diameter and weighed 10 kg, officials said, according to indianexpress.com.
