Shell-Equinor joint venture hires Shearwater for more work

Adura Operations, an incorporated joint venture (IJV) between the UK’s Shell and Norway’s Equinor, has awarded Norwegian Shearwater GeoServices with more work.

Shearwater has been selected to carry out a 4D towed streamer seismic acquisition project for the Mariner field in the UK North Sea using its deploy Isometrix multi-component streamer technology, with the one-month survey to begin in July.

According to the firm, the survey is designed with the potential for an undershoot, as reflected in the contractual scope, to enhance imaging and ensure continuous coverage around field infrastructure.

“Shearwater welcomes this award by Adura, extending our long-standing collaboration at the Mariner field, supporting the continued optimisation of this complex and long-life asset,” said Irene Waage Basili, CEO of Shearwater. “Monitoring reservoirs in existing fields is essential to extending field life, optimising production, and supporting energy security.”

This comes a month after Sherwater reported it was appointed for approximately 220 km2 of seismic acquisition at the Jackdaw field for Adura.

To remind, the joint venture was set up in December 2025 by combining Shell and Equinor’s offshore oil & gas operations on the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS). The JV assumed interests in 12 producing assets and projects in execution, including Mariner, Rosebank, Buzzard, Shearwater, Penguins, Gannet, Nelson, Pierce, Jackdaw, Victory, Clair and Schiehallion.
