Inpex: first Ichthys LNG PSV named MMA Plover

Inpex the operator of the Ichthys LNG project in Australia on Monday informed the first of two platform supply vessels to support the project was named the MMA Plover. 

The naming took place at Broome Port on Sunday, August 14, Inpex said adding that the vessel was named after one of the Ichthys field’s condensate-rich gas reservoirs.

The vessel will support the facilities moored in the Ichthys field, located about 450 kilometres north of Broome.

The project’s central processing facility and floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) facility will be moored in the Ichthys field seabed for at least 40 years of continuous operation.

Once located in the field, the CPF will deliver natural gas and some condensate through an 890-kilometre subsea gas export pipeline to onshore processing facilities in the Northern Territory. Most condensate will be processed through the FPSO and shipped directly to market from the field, according to Inpex.

The project’s onshore processing facilities located at Bladin Point near Darwin will be producing 8.9 mtpa of liquefied natural gas once the construction is complete. First LNG from the multi-billion project is expected in the first quarter of 2017.

The Ichthys project is a joint venture between Japan’s Inpex, major partner Total of France, Taiwan’s CPC Corporation and the Australian subsidiaries of Tokyo Gas, Osaka Gas, Kansai Electric, Chubu Electric Power and Toho Gas.
