Intellian Delivers First Ground Breaking Satellite Antenna System

Following the launch of its v100GX 3-Axis Ku-Band VSAT communications antenna, Intellian the world’s technological leader in marine satellite antennas, has commenced the first deliveries of this ground breaking new system.

Satellite communication service partner Marlink will supply the first of many vessels to benefit from this advanced technology with a full communications package of its Maritime VSAT service and Intellian hardware. Intellian has recorded a substantial increase in antenna numbers supplied to Marlink over the year, with this latest order which includes a large number of the v100GX Ku band systems, together with the Intellian’s v130 Ku band antennas provided earlier. These VSAT systems are destined for a shipping operator demanding the most robust and technically advanced systems with low maintenance and upgrade requirements.

The 1m v100GX has been designed from the ground up to provide unparalleled performance. The system incorporates a superb dual-band, carbon fibre reflector and tuned radome for consistent service whether operating on the existing Ku- band or when converted to Ka- band when available next year. The Intellian v100GX has been specifically designed to be upgraded to the service with minimal technical intervention ensuring uninterrupted vessel operation.

Designed to ensure minimal down time when converting the v100GX system from Ku-band, the antenna reflector does not need to be changed as the RF section is mounted on a single modular chassis enabling quick conversion to Ka-band operation without any system re-balancing. The plug-and-play GX Conversion Kit is quick and easy to use and does not require a factory trained technician to mount. The antenna’s functionality can be easily transformed into the GX high-throughput broadband global service when Inmarsat’s I-5 Ka-band satellites are launched and operational in 2014.

Intellian President and CEO, Eric Sung commented: “Our relationship with Marlink has been growing in recent years as operators and ship management recognise the need for well-designed and reliable systems which will maintain on-board communications wherever the vessels sail globally. Communications at sea are crucial for the management of the vessel and crew comfort, our attention to detail ensures we are ahead of the game technically and can provide operators what they need. We are delighted to be working with Marlink on major projects such as this recent v100GX installation.”
