International Offshore Rig Count in November Drops by 36 Year-on-Year

Baker Hughes reported yesterday that the international rig count for November 2011 was 1,138, down 59 from the 1,197 counted in October 2011, and up 8 from the 1,130 counted in November 2010. The international offshore rig count for November 2011 was 284, down 28 from the 312 counted in October 2011 and down 36 from the 320 counted in November 2010.

The last report of rig activity in Libya was for February 2011.

The US rig count for November 2011 was 2,011, down 6 from the 2,017 counted in October 2011 and up 328 from the 1,683 counted in November 2010. The Canadian rig count for November 2011 was 487, down 21 from the 508 counted in October 2011 and up 67 from the 420 counted in November 2010.

The worldwide rig count for November 2011 was 3,636 down 86 from the 3,722 counted in October 2011 and up 403 from the 3,233 counted in November 2010.

The Baker Hughes Rotary Rig Counts are counts of the number of drilling rigs actively exploring for or developing oil or natural gas in the United States, Canada and international markets. Baker Hughes has issued the rotary rig counts as a service to the petroleum industry since 1944, when Hughes Tool Company began weekly counts of US and Canadian drilling activity. Baker Hughes initiated the monthly international rig count in 1975.
