Intertek wins extension of Ichthys LNG deal

Intertek, a quality assurance provider, has won a contract to extend the provision of quality assurance services into the operational phase of the Inpex-led Ichthys LNG project, offshore Australia.

The Ichthys LNG development includes offshore facilities, an onshore processing facility located in Darwin and an 890km pipeline that connects the facilities. When construction is complete, the Ichthys LNG Project will produce up to an estimated 8.9 million tonnes of LNG and 1.6 million tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) per annum as well as 100,000 barrels of condensate per day at peak.

Intertek said that the agreement with Inpex will last for three years and will entail local and global inspection, expediting and auditing services to the Ichthys LNG project throughout the remainder of construction activities and also during operation of the facility and pipeline.

The scope of technical quality assurance services being provided is critical to complex projects and ensures the quality of materials, on-time delivery of equipment, vendor compliance, and commissioning of the facility are in accordance with construction and operating standards.

Richard Dee, Intertek Business Development Manager of Industry Services, said: “Since 2012, Intertek has been delivering local and global vendor inspection, non-destructive testing and verification support to the Ichthys LNG Project. We look forward to providing continued quality assurance support that will ensure safe and successful operations.”
