Iran could start exporting gas to Basra

Iran is considering pumping gas to the Iraqi city of Basra, planning director of National Iranian Gas Company, Hassan Montazer Torbati said.

“In addition to gas exports to Baghdad, for which a contract has been signed, gas export to Basra is now on the agenda,” he added.

He said that the necessary infrastructure for gas delivery to Basra would be built one year after the signature of the agreement.

“The pipeline has already been extended as far as Khorramshahr, in Khuzestan Province, and it would be possible to extend a branch from Iran Gas Trunkline-6 for gas exports to Basra,” Torbati said.

He stated that Iran would start pumping 10 million cubic meters of gas per day to Basra, adding that the volume of gas delivery could increase.
