ITU World - Kumhomarine to Promote Navigation Solutions for Shipping Industry

Kumhomarine, South Korea’s largest technology provider for the marine industry, will be promoting a host of solutions designed for Middle East-based customers at this year’s ITU World.

With a focus on safety, Kuhmomarine will be demonstrating products such as e-navigation, vessel monitoring and electronic chart displays.

On display at Kumhomarine’s stand will be electronic navigational charts, electronic chart display and information systems, vessel monitoring systems, automatic identification solutions and several educational and training tools for navigators and their crews. While the Middle East’s marine shipping sector has experienced steady growth over the last decade maritime security is now a major concern for the industry. Technology is one answer to keeping vessels out of harm’s way, believe Kumhomarine executives.

“Technology is very much key to the safety of large sea-faring vessels today,” said Lee Hee Yong, CTO, Kumhomarine. “Traditionally technology designed for the shipping sector has been cumbersome and unwieldy. e-navigation is not a new type of equipment, but a ‘concept’ that involves a broad range of navigation systems and services. Our solutions are designed with ease of use in mind and that has been reflected by the positive response we have had from the global shipping community.”

Based on standards proposed by the International Maritime Organization, all of Kumhomarine’s solutions are designed to make maritime navigation and communications more reliable and reduce navigator errors. E-navigation technology allows for a ship to access, integrate and present shore-based maritime information on-board, and to transmit key information to shore or to other ships. Kumhomarine’s solutions combine to provide a number of key benefits to ship owners and crews, including:

• Accurate and reliable electronic positioning. This includes both satellite and land-based radio navigation systems/services.

• Accurate and approved electronic navigational charts, digital broadcast services that provide critical information, such as weather conditions, tide/water level, current flow, ice coverage, status of aids-to-navigation, security zones, and sensitive marine protected areas.

• Reliable and robust transmission of positional and navigational information in several directions: ship-to-shore, shore-to-ship, and ship-to-ship. In particular, this includes information on vessel transits related to course, speed, and maneuvering parameters, as well as vessel identification and cargo details.

“Kumhomarine has extensive experience in serving the maritime market with electronic charts, e-navigation solutions and a range of other products. E-navigation is the future of the shipping industry and will enhance berth to berth navigation, improve safety and security at sea as well as protection of the marine environment,” added Lee Hee Yong.

Kumhomarine will be at the five day event in Dubai from the 14 to 18 October at the Dubai World Trade Center to meet with potential partners and expand their distribution channel.
