Imabari Shipbuilding Group has participated at the “Posidonia 2012”, international maritime exhibition, which was held in Athens, Greece, for 5 days from 4th (Mon.) to 8th (Fri.) June. The Group participated to the exhibition and presented its latest development the 61-type bulk carrier “I-STAR”.

Imabari participated to the exhibition as Japan shipbuilding association formed with fourteen shipyards belonging to the Japan Ship Exporters Association and shipbuilders and marine machinery and equipment manufacturers which belong to the Japan Ship Exporters Association, the Japan Shipbuilders’ Association and or the Japan Marine Equipment Association attended to Japan Pavilion.

With cutting the tape by His Excellency Hiroshi Toda, the ambassador of Japan to Greece, the Japan pavilion opened on 4th June with big applause.

Imabari Shipbuilding took the chance to present the accomplishment of its research and development on eco-ships by displaying the model ship of latest environment friendly vessel, 61-type bulk carrier “I-STAR”.

I-STAR series have been developed as the new Handymax bulk carrier of Imabari Shipbuilding group. I-STAR is the world’s largest handymax bulk carrier which complies CSR (Common Structure Rules), while retaining as low fuel oil consumption as our existing handymax, satisfying the ship owners’ needs that require larger freight capability , efficiency and flexibility.

The main characteristics of I-STAR are as follows:

  • Realized larger deadweight of 61,000m.t. by extending the overall length to 199.9m.
  • Fuel consumption is improved by the installation of Hybrid-fin as the energy saving device.
  • Cargo loading efficiency is improved by standardizing the length of flat part of tank top of each cargo hold to 28.8meters.
  • F.O. shifter is implemented as the countermeasure to the cargo heat damage.
