Japan June LNG imports rise YoY

Japan, the world’s biggest buyer of liquefied natural gas, imported 6.82 million tonnes of LNG in June, up 5.9 percent from June in 2013, the country’s Ministry of Finance said on Thursday.

The country imported 44.3 million tonnes of LNG in January-June period, up 2 percent compared to the same period a year ago.

Japan’s LNG imports have been rising steadily after it shut all its nuclear reactors in the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami in 2011.
