K Line Inks Bauxite Ore Shipping Contract with EGA

Tokyo-headquartered shipping conglomerate Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (”K” Line) has signed an agreement with Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) for the transportation of around 5 million tons of bauxite ore annually for an undisclosed period of time.

The bauxite ore contract is for the alumina refinery that EGA plans to build in Al Taweelah, UAE.

The ore will be transported using ”K” Line’s Capesize bulkers, and the reported long-term contract is planned to commence in the late teens.

”K” Line has transported cargo for Dubai Aluminium, now an operating subsidiary of EGA, for the last 35 years.

The latest agreement is in line with ”K” Line’s new medium-term management plan which identified the company’s Capesize carrier business as one of the core business sectors.

EGA is a 50/50 joint venture held by Mubadala Development Company of Abu Dhabi and the Investment Corporation of Dubai.
