The so-called Hekinan MAX coal carrier was handed over from Imabari Shipbuilding’s Marugame Shipyard on November 15, 2018.

Shonai Maru was jointly developed by Imabari and K Line to maximize transport volume to the discharging port, Chubu Electric Power’s Hekinan Thermal Power Plant, Aichi prefecture in Japan.

With a length of 250 meters and a beam of 43 meters, the unit featured the latest energy-saving and ecological technology such as Weather Adapted Duct (WAD) which promotes its propeller efficiency plus a ballast water management system that prevents damage to marine ecosystems, K Line informed.

The 57,800 gross ton Shonai Maru will be involved in long-term service carrying thermal coal to the Hekinan Thermal Power Plant for JERA Trading.
