Kandla Port Unveils Mega Container Terminal Plans

The Board of Trustees of Kandla Port Trust invites Application from interested parties in accordance with the Request for Qualification (RFQ) Document in order to pre-qualify competent Applicants who can subsequently bid for the Project as per Request for Proposal (RFP) Documents.

Kandla Port Trust has emerged as the biggest cargo handler among all Major Ports of India and to continue holding the same position, it has been at the forefront to take up the series of initiatives for the development of Port Infrastructure facilities. One such initiative is “Setting up of Mega Container Terminal at Tuna-Tekra at Kandla Port on BOT Basis under PPP Mode”.

The proposed container terminal would be developed for creation of the container handling capacity of 4.19 Million TEUs at an Estimated Project Cost of Rs. 5991.71 Crores.

The proposed project aims to develop the container handling facility with “U” shape basin, protected with breakwaters, creating quay length of 2100 m (capable to accommodate six vessels at a time) equipped with a state of the art container handling cranes, stacking yard, rail-road connectivity and all other allied facilities. The project endeavors to handle 15500 TEU vessels initially with liberty to the Concessionaire for handling 18000 TEU vessels by additional dredging.

The Project is envisaged to be developed in three phases of which 1st phase shall be commissioned within 3 years and remaining two phases to be commissioned in 2 years each.

The Project aims to cater growing container handling demand of hinterland, especially, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Northern India, etc. The Project is to be developed outside the Kandla Creek at Zero Contour, approximately a Kilometer east from the Dry Bulk Terminal presently being developed near Tuna off Tekra.
