Business & Finance

Throughout the years, Kuantan Port has developed progressively towards becoming one of the busiest ports in Malaysia.

KPC_expansionIn addition, the mushrooming of newer industries related to petrochemical manufacturing and other service-oriented sectors has made Kuantan Port the undisputed petrochemical hub of Malaysia.

Kuantan Port Consortium Sdn Bhd, in collaboration with the Government, has embarked on a port expansion project to cater for ships up to 200,000 DWT.

The project also includes deepening of the draft depth to 18 metres, and expanding the turning circle to 700 metres.

The expansion of the port shall act as a catalyst for the realisation of Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park (MCKIP) in Gebeng.

This will spearhead the economic development of the region and Kuantan Port shall act as the logistic hub for the Special Economic Zone which is being promoted by the East Coast Economic Region Development Council.

The East Coast Economic Region (ECER) covers the states of Kelantan, Terrengannu, Pahang and the District of Mersing.

Due to its strategic location, ECER has the potential to become the main gateway for trade and industry.

It faces the Asia Pacific region, the area with the population of 4 billion, and a combined GDP of $17 trillion.

ECER Special Economic Zone (SEZ) was launched by the Prime Minister of Malaysia in 2009.

ECER SEZ is a concentration of high impact projects within an integrated development zone located at the nucleus of ECER – Kuantan Port.

Kuantan Port is ECER’s premier port, and it will play a critical role in creating an integrated logistics and industrial hub.
