Lang Tech: Chios Navigation Chooses Open-Loop Hybrid-Ready Scrubber for New Tanker

Finnish scrubber manufacturer Langh Tech has delivered a scrubber system to the Chios Navigation’s newest ship.

The scrubber system was installed on board Doris Courage, a 50,000 dwt medium range product tanker recently completed at South Korean Hyundai Mipo Shipyard.

According to Lang Tech, Chios Navigation has been one of the first Greek shipowners which selected Langh Tech open loop-hybrid ready scrubbers for the newbuild. The system consists of a U-type multi-inlet 5 flue gas sources open loop hybrid ready configuration to serve a main engine of 7,180 kW MCR power, three auxiliary generating sets and the auxiliary boiler, consuming totally only about 130 kW in design operating load.

At the end of April 2019, Doric Courage was delivered by Hyundai Mipo with sea trials confirming the high performance of the scrubber system.

‘’We were looking for a scrubber system for our newbuilding project that would be technically simple and sound, but with qualitative elements…We believe that we have invested in an efficient hybrid-ready solution with low operating costs,”  Nicholas Kydoniefs, Technical Director of Chios Navigation, explained.

Chios Navigation is a Greek shipowning company owning nine bulk carrier and three medium range product tanker vessels, nearly all of which have been constructed after 2010.

Langh Tech designs and produces scrubbers for SOx removal from exhaust gases and water treatment units for closed loop scrubbers.
