LDT books additional capacity at Lithuania’s LNG terminal

Lithuania’s natural gas supply and trading company Lietuvos Dujų Tiekimas has booked additional capacity at the country’s first LNG import terminal in the port of Klaipeda.

Klaipedos Nafta, the operator of the LNG import facility, said Tuesday it concluded a deal with LDT under which the latter gets more regas capacity during the current gas year spanning from October 2016 to September this year.

LDT, that is a  part of the state-controlled Lietuvos Energija, booked additional regas capacities of 960 GWh for the period from July 1 until the end of September this year, Klaipedos Nafta said.

Besides LDT, the two other LNG terminal users are the Lithuanian fertilizer producer Achema and another Lietuvos Energija company, Litgas.

Lithuania, the largest of the three Baltic nations, started importing the chilled fuel via Höegh LNG’s FSRU Independence in December 2014 in order to reduce its dependence on Russian pipeline gas supplies. The LNG is being imported under a deal Litgas has with Norway’s Statoil.

To remind, LDT also announced this week it bought a cargo from US LNG player Cheniere. The first US LNG cargo to land in Lithuania is expected in the second half of August.
