Leaky Sprinkler Pipe Floods Finnish Ferry

Finnish ferry operator Viking Line was forced to pull a ferry operating between Helsinki and Stockholm out of service after water from a faulty sprinkler pipe damaged around 90 of the vessel’s cabins on Saturday evening, October 10.

The M/S Mariella was en route from Helsinki to Stockholm when the leak occurred on the Deck 6. The accident did not affect the safety of passengers and the ship’s safety systems are operating normally, Viking Line said in a statement.

The ferry was out of service on Sunday while the repairs to its fire prevention system were carried out. Passengers whose tickets were cancelled on Sunday will be either reimbursed or given new tickets.

The leaky pipe has been repaired and the Mariella is ready to resume with its schedule.
