Liebherr-Component Technologies at SMM (Germany)

Liebherr will be exhibiting for the first time a selection of products in the field of hydraulics, large diameter bearings and gearboxes at the International trade fair for Shipbuilding, Machinery & Maritime Technology (SMM), which runs from 4 to 7 September 2012 in Hamburg. One focal point will be the presentation of application-specific solutions.

The high-performance components and systems solutions developed by Liebherr are suitable for a wide range of maritime applications in cranes, ship propulsion systems and special equipment, such as pipe-laying ships or jack-up platforms.

The wide range of products will be represented at Booth 110 in Hall A2 by a planetary plug-in gearbox for operation in rope winches, a double hydraulic motor with through-drive option and a hydraulic cylinder with a stroke length of almost 2 m. A slewing drive assembly comprising slewing drive and large diameter bearing will also be shown.

New range of PEG planetary plug-in gearboxes

The PEG 550 gearbox exhibited at the trade fair is a representative of a new range of planetary plug-in gearboxes designed by Liebherr. They are intended for installation in rope winches and are of particular interest for companies that wish to purchase or manufacture the winch drum and frame separately.

The new range includes a total of 14 sizes from the PEG 250 to the PEG 1100, which are available in a wide range of ratios from i=50 to i=700. The smallest gearbox has a dynamic torque of 8,500 Nm and the largest can produce a dynamic torque of 700,000 Nm (with load spectrum L2, operating class T5, categorised according to FEM). The standard gearboxes designed for horizontal installation in winches can be adapted for drives powered by both electric and hydraulic motors and are thus very flexible.

Versatile application options in the maritime field

The continuously growing offshore manufacturing has an increasing demand for high-performance quality products that can meet the rigid qualification requirements standard in the industry. The application areas, such as oil and gas production or the offshore wind industry, are becoming more and more demanding. Liebherr components developed and manufactured in-house have proven their value in mobile harbour cranes, ship cranes and offshore cranes from Liebherr and other manufacturers for many decades.

The number of customers outside the Liebherr group is continuously increasing and is an important segment of the market with a high growth potential for the components division. This is a major reason for the first appearance of this division at the SMM.
