Maersk Line to Transport Aluminium for UC RUSAL

Danish shipping company Maersk Line has signed a three-year letter of intent with Russian aluminium producer UC RUSAL for long-term cooperation in the maritime transport sector.

Under the agreement, Maersk Line would transport RUSAL’s products, particularly aluminum and alloys, aboard its containerships.

According to RUSAL, the cargo volume is estimated to be up to 10,000 containers per year.

The agreement is valid for three years with the possibility of further extension.

“The signing of this agreement is a confirmation of the mutual intentions to build a long-term strategic partnership between RUSAL and Maersk Line. The aim of the agreement is the joint search for the most optimal logistic solutions aimed at optimising costs for both parties,” Vladislav Soloviev, RUSAL CEO, said.

The company’s current capacity means it is able to produce 4.2 million tonnes of aluminium, 11.5 million tonnes of alumina and 90 thousand tonnes of foil per annum.

In 2015 RUSAL accounted for approximately 7% of global production of aluminium and 7% of alumina.
