Major Hiring at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard

The U.S. Government yesterday announced that the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PSNS & IMF) is about to hire more than 1,000 workers.

The Government reported 1,073 job openings for marine industrial careers at the shipyard. These helper trainee vacancies will be filled in many different trades such as shipfitter, welder, machinist, marine machinery mechanic, pipefitter, shipwright, electrician, painter and several others.

Shipyard spokeswoman Mary Ann Mascianica said that the new helpers will boost the workforce by almost 10 percent, to more than 11,500.

It is estimated that the hiring will add more than $30 million in wages to the region.
