Maran Gas Declares Options for FSRU, LNG Carrier

Greece-based shipping company Maran Gas Maritime has declared options for a further LNG carrier and a second floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) at South Korean yard Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME).

As informed, the two 173,400 cbm units are scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2020.

Maran Gas, a unit of Angelicoussis Shipping Group (ASGL), has not disclosed any price details. However, John Angelicoussis, owner of the group, said at an ABS briefing at Posidonia 2018 on June 4 that he believed LNG newbuilding prices will climb back above USD 200 million within the next 12 months.

Each of the 111,000-ton newbuilds will feature a length of 291.9 meters and a width of 46.4 meters, VesselsValue’s data shows.

The options were declared just as the six-month deadline to do so was to expire.

The company ordered its first FSRU at the abovementioned yard in 2017. The ship is also due for delivery in 2020, although scheduled for an earlier handover in March.

Maran Gas’ declared option for the LNG ship will bring the number of such vessels the company has under construction to nine – all being built at Daewoo and nominated to fly the Greek flag.
