Maran Gas orders LNG duo from DSME

South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. (DSME) has won an order from Maran Gas Maritime, a unit of Greece’s Angelicoussis Shipping Group, to build two LNG tankers.

Maran Gas Maritime ordered two 173,400-cbm LNG carriers with options for up to two additional vessels, DSME said in a statement on Thursday.

The vessels, expected to be delivered in 2019, will have a length of 295m, and a width of 46m.

Additionally, the LNG newbuildings will be equipped with M-type, electronically-controlled, gas-injection (ME-GI) propulsion systems, DSME said.

Maran Tankers, a unit Angelicoussis, has also inked orders for a pair of VLCCs with an option for another two to be built at the South Korean shipyard.

The deal for the four vessels is worth 676.3 billion won ($588 million), according to DSME.

These orders will give a much-needed boost for the battered shipbuilder that has been struggling due to shrinking work at its yards.

DSME is a preferred shipyard for Maran Gas that now has 10 newbuilds on order at the South Korean shipbuilder.

Maran Gas’ total orderbook stands at 13 LNG vessels that will be added to the shipping company’s fleet of 19 operational LNG carriers,
