McDermott, BHGE win subsea EPCI work on Ichthys LNG field

LNG contractor McDermott International and U.S.-based GE company Baker Hughes have been awarded contracts for work on the Inpex-operated Ichthys LNG field development off the northwest coast of Western Australia.

McDermott said on Tuesday that the contract, signed on July 25, was for the provision of a joint umbilical, risers, and flowlines (URF) and subsea production system (SPS) solutions for the project.

The solutions comprise a new subsea well gathering system (GS4), tied back to the existing central processing facility.

In addition to the GS4 scope, the award includes in-fill URF EPCI scope involving the development of new subsea wells tied-in to the existing gathering systems.

The two companies will lead the project from the joint project management and engineering office in Perth, Australia, while fabrication of the subsea URF equipment will be carried out at McDermott’s fabrication facility in Indonesia.

BHGE will deliver the SPS scope, including vertical christmas trees, associated production control systems, distribution equipment, and topside controls, as well as associated installation and commissioning support services. This follows an earlier award granted to BHGE including four christmas trees and associated SPS equipment for in-fill development.

According to McDermott, offshore installation of the URF and SPS equipment will begin in 2020 and will be completed in 2023. The field development will be carried out using McDermott’s DLV 2000 vessel.
