McDermott has been contracted to carry out front-end engineering and design (FEED) work for offshore wellhead platforms, pipelines and cables associated with the North Field Expansion (NFE) project.

The company classifies deals of up to $50 million as sizeable.

The scope includes the design of four offshore trunk lines with intra-field pipelines, eight wellhead platforms and power and fiber optic (PFO) subsea cable rings, the company said in its statement on Thursday.

The FEED contract will be executed from McDermott’s Doha offices, with drafting to be executed in Chennai.

Work on the project will begin immediately, McDermott said.

The North Field Expansion project is part of Qatar Petroleum’s plans to expand Qatar’s LNG production from 77 million tonnes per annum (mta) to 110 mta by 2024.

The North Field lies off the north-east shore of the Qatar peninsula and covers an area of more than 6,000 square kilometers, equivalent to about half the land area of Qatar, with recoverable reserves of more than 900 trillion standard cubic feet (tscf).
