Mechanical Issues Send BC Ferries’ Ship to Drydock

Canadian ferry operator BC Ferries’ vessel Queen of Burnaby will enter a dry docking on February 8 as it experienced mechanical issues, according to the company.

The ferry operator informed that the ship will be temporarily removed from service on the Comox – Powell River route to repair a propeller hub.

The 51-year-old ship is expected to return to service within one week.

The MV Island Sky, which usually sails between Earls Cove and Saltery Bay, will be redeployed to the Comox – Powell River route to replace the Queen of Burnaby on the evening of February 7, and the regular schedule will remain in effect on this route during the period.

The Bowen Queen will assume service on the Earls Cove – Saltery Bay route on February 8 as well.

Queen of Burnaby is scheduled to be replaced by the company’s new liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered Salish Class newbuilding Salish Orca in the spring of 2017.
