Mitsui Linked to Bulker Duo Order in China

Japan-based Mitsui & Co has allegedly placed an order for two bulk carriers at a Chinese shipyard, according to a report from Asiasis.

The company reportedly signed the vessel construction deal, which was unveiled on November 8, with Yangzijiang Shipbuilding.

The parties did not provide any details on the delivery dates for the newest 82,000 dwt Panamax bulker duo. The price of the new ships was also not revealed.

Excluding the latest order, Mitsui & Co currently has 20 vessels under construction at various yard, according to data provided by VesselsValue. Six of these are 81,800 dwt Panamax bulkers being built by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, which were ordered by the company in December 2015.

Of the total, eight new ships are scheduled to join Mitsui & Co during 2019, while the remaining 12 are expected to be delivered in 2020, VesselsValue noted.
