MMHE chief executive steps down after Petronas asks for his return

Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering (MMHE), a shipbuilding and heavy engineering industries company, has announced the departure of its chief executive officer at the request of its compatriot Petronas.

MMHE said that YBhg Dato’ Haji Abu Fitri Abdul Jalil will relinquish his position as Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) of MMHE on April 30, 2016.

The company explained that, in view of the current challenges of the oil and gas industry and pursuant to the group-wide transformation exercise being undertaken by Petronas, YBhg Dato’ Haji Abu Fitri has been called back into the service of Petronas.

Prior to his appointment as CEO of MMHE in January 2015, Abu Fitri was the Vice President, Offshore Business in MISC Berhad, and before that he was the Senior General Manager, Petroleum Operations Management in Petronas.

MMHE’s board has initiated a search to identify a new MD/CEO. In the interim, the board announced the appointment of Cik Wan Mashitah Wan Abdullah Sani, the current Chief Financial Officer of MMHE, as the Acting Chief Executive Officer with effect from May 1, 2016.

Cik Wan Mashitah joined MISC Berhad in 2002 and had served in various capacities before she was appointed as the Chief Financial Officer of MMHE on June 30, 2010.

MMHE stated that Cik Wan Mashitah has experience in the MMHE Group’s business and is capable of providing leadership to the Management Team pending the appointment of a new MD/CEO of the company.
