More MMO work for Aker Solutions in the North Sea

Norwegian offshore services firm Aker Solutions has won a framework agreement to provide engineering and construction services for several offshore oil and gas fields in the UK North Sea.

The contract has a fixed period of five years as well as an option to be extended by five years. Aker Solutions’ maintenance, modifications and operations (MMO) business in the UK will deliver on the assignment, which was awarded by an international oil and gas operator. The company did not say who the client was.

“Winning this contract in such a competitive market proves Aker Solutions’ ability to find effective ways to support our customers at a challenging time for the industry,” said David Clark, Aker Solutions’ regional president for Europe and Africa. He did not reveal the financial details of the deal.

This award announcement comes only two days after Aker Solutions’ MMO business in Norway secured two contracts for work at North Sea fields operated by ConocoPhillips.

Future now seems a bit brighter of Aker Solutions’ MMO business, as the company recently lost a bid to perform modification and maintenance services for Statoil’s fields in Norway. At the time, the company said the loss of Statoil’s contract would have serious implications for the company’s MMO business in Norway. Following the failure to obtain the Statoil contract in December, Aker Solutions in January 2016 said set in motion its workforce reduction process, saying 900 positions would be lost from its MMO unit across Norway.
