MPC Container Ships Adds Another Second-Hand Vessel

Norwegian shipowner MPC Container Ships has entered into an agreement to acquire another 2006-built containership.

The 2,800 TEU vessel, which will be renamed AS Clementina, was bought for a price of USD 10.5 million. The ship in question was built by Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, South Korea.

Physical takeover of the vessel is anticipated to take place in the first quarter of 2018.

The latest purchase, which would push the company’s fleet to 44 vessels, comes a day after MPC Container Ships said it bought two second-hand boxships worth USD 21.8 million.

The previously bought ships, namely AS Carolin and AS Camellia, also feature 2,800 TEU each and were built in 2006 by Hyundai Mipo Dockyard. They are set to join their new owner in February.

In January 2018, MPC Container Ships received Oslo Stock Exchange’s approval for a full listing of shares on Oslo Axess. Trading of the company’s shares on Oslo Axess started on January 29 under the ticker symbol “MPCC”.

In addition, the company said earlier that it was considering a USD 100 million senior secured tap issue of its outstanding bonds maturing in September 2022.
