National Oilwell Varco lays off another 520 in Norway

U.S. oilfield equipment provider, National Oilwell Varco (NOV), will reduce its workforce in Norway by another 520 employees.

According to Reuters, that quoted the company’s statement, the company has decided to make this move over fewer orders received due to low oil prices. The company is thus reducing its staff in Norway to less than 2,000.

Reuters quoted the company’s statement as saying: “The uncertain market situation means that we cannot say how extensive the downsizing process will be in the long run.”

The company also added that all cuts announced on Friday would be permanent jobs.

Offshore Energy Today reached out to NOV seeking confirmation of these reports, and the company’s spokesperson confirmed that 520 employees would be affected by this downsizing in NOV Norway.

This is the second round of job cuts in National Oilwell Varco’s Norway section as the company said in June 2015 it would would lay off 1,500 employees, 900 permanent employees and 600 contractors, by the end of 2015.
