New Fortress Energy’s TGS LNG terminal in Brazil ready for operations

Business Developments & Projects

U.S. energy major New Fortress Energy (NFE) has revealed that the construction of its Santa Catarina (TGS) terminal in Brazil is complete, and the company is looking forward to the arrival of the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) Energos Winter in January 2024.

The first LNG terminal in the south of the country, strategically located to serve growing industrial and power demand, Santa Catarina is expected to provide natural gas to the energy-constrained region.

In November 2023, New Fortress Energy executed a definitive agreement with Brazilian state-owned oil and gas giant Petrobras for the Energos Winter which will be deployed to TGS.

At the time, NFE revealed that the FSRU would be sub-chartered by NFE through the remaining term of the Petrobras charter with U.S.-based Energos infrastructure and then direct-chartered by NFE on a long-term basis with Energos. This is expected to enable NFE to continue uninterrupted service on a long-term basis.

Andrew Dete, Managing Director of NFE, commented on the terminal: “The TGS terminal is a unique, high-growth opportunity for NFE, as connection to the pipeline system in south Brazil offers a diverse and near-term set of opportunities across power and gas supply.”
