New Suez Canal Nearing End

With the recent arrival of Royal Boskalis’ trailing suction hopper dredger “Oranje” at the site, a total of 242.1 million cubic meters of sand has been dredged from the New Suez Canal so far.

According to the government latest report, the figure represents around 93 percent of the targeted 258 million cubic meters that should be dredged by the end of the project.

With the addition of TSHD “Oranje”, some 40 vessels are working on the project in order to complete all dredging activities before the mid-July, after which the experimental operation of the new canal will start.

Official inauguration of the new waterway has been set for August 2015.
