Norway: AF Group Signs Contract with DeepOcean to Recycle Statoils Loading Buoy at Statfjord C

The AF Group has signed a contract with DeepOcean to demolish and recycle Statoils loading buoy at Statfjord C.

For AF Group the contract comprises planning, engineering and preparation offshore, bringing the buoy onshore and recycling. DeepOcean has total responsibility for the contract, including implementing the subsea work and towing from Statfjord to the Environmental Base Vats at Haugesund.

The loading buoy at Statfjord C was installed in 1984, and is 181 m high and 8000 tonnes including ballast. Environmental Base Vats on the west coast of Norway will be used as the decommissioning site. The site is Europe’s most modern decommissioning facility for recycling offshore installations.

The value of AFs part of the contract is approx. NOK 49 million.

Planning and engineering will start immediately. Bringing the buoy onshore and recycling will be performed in summer/autumn 2012.

We are looking forward to starting up the decommissioning work in cooperation with DeepOcean. Through several projects, the AF Group has built up expertise and capacity to handle removal and recycling of obsolete petroleum installations in an environmentally friendly way. The contract will support our strong position in a growing market , says Pål Egil Rønn, CEO of the AF Group.
