Norway: Drilling Safety Verified on Gullfaks

A detailed review of planned drilling and well operations has been carried out on Gullfaks since Statoil halted such work on the North Sea field on 10 November.

This check has aimed to ensure that the group’s management system is being complied with, and that risk assessments of these activities are adequate.

“We’ve resolved to resume such operations on Gullfaks after a detailed verification that all safety standards have been met,” says Geir Slora, head of drilling and well in Statoil.

Findings made and measures adopted in the wake of the drilling stoppage have been presented by the group to the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA).

The halt to drilling and well operations on Gullfaks followed Statoil’s internal investigation into the incident with the C-06 well on the field’s C platform this May.
