Norway: Havyard Develops New Bridge Concept for Offshore Vessels

Havyard Group AS has developed a brand new and more functional bridge concept. This first edition will now be fitted onboard the Havyard 832 L designed vessel, “Vestland Mira”.

Project Manager Svein Olav Tørresdal of Havyard Power & Systems has been heading the design and the development of this modern bridge concept that has been given the name “Havyard Concept Bridge ™”. The development has been done in close cooperation with the company Nomek, in Stryn, Norway.

– We have spent one year developing this system and now we are finally there. The bridge concept is all about a more open, more secure and more functional bridge concept where you have everything within reach, without having to move around much at all in order to go from one operation to the next, Tørresdal points out.

“Concept Bridge ™” is developed for all types of vessels within offshore, fishing, seismology, cargo vessels and also for passenger ships.

Being a supplier of electronic equipment really allows us to choose the best products for each individual task, independent of who the manufacturer is. This is a modern bridge solution with the possibility for multifunctional workstations. Installation of the new system is far easier than previously as the new concept is constructed by different modules. The customer can actually pick exactly what modules he or she wishes to include in this concept, says Tørresdal, who would like to emphasize that the most important aspect of the new bridge concept is simply to make the voyage even safer.

– With the former bridge consoles you were sort of sitting more “locked up”, but with the “Havyard Concept Bridge ™”, everything is now much clearer. The people operating the equipment are able to see the whole aperture and they will also have everything they need nearby, the Project Manager explains.

– In addition, we are also using fewer hours both in terms of producing this concept and fitting it all together onboard the vessel, compared to the time we spent on the previous systems. At the same time, the quality is better and the equipment is more functional. So this is absolutely a win-win situation both for us and for the customers, Tørresdal informs, who also adds that this new bridge concept now will become a standard on Havyard Group`s vessels.
