Norway: New Control Rooms for Valhall Field

Norway: New Control Rooms for Valhall Field

BP Norge has received consent from Petroleum Safety Authority Norway to use an onshore control room for Valhall at Forus near Stavanger. The new control room with associated systems can operate all the wells at the Valhall centre, Flanke Sør, Flanke Nord and Hod.

For the Valhall field, this means that two new control rooms will be introduced, one onshore and one offshore. Together the rooms will function as one control room with different roles and responsibilities. The wells will be controlled from the onshore control room, which will also provide operations support and condition control.

The other roles and responsibilities will remain in the control room at Valhall.

The change is a part of the upgrade to achieve a lifetime extension for the Valhall field until 2050. Valhall is an oil field in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea. Discovered in 1975, production began in 1982.Valhall is located in 70 metres of water.
