Lars Peder Solstad was elected new president of the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association (NSA) on Monday, March 31st.

The new president has taken over the position from Trond Kleivdalo.

Norway has one of the world’s largest and most advanced fleets. The maritime industry creates jobs across the country and contributes 160 billions of annual values. Norwegian shipping plays an important role in the global economy. The maritime cluster is continuously looking for better and more environmentally friendly solutions, and this has given Norway a competitive and unique knowledge environment with innovative strength, global influence and appeal,” says Solstad.

Lars Peder Solstad also highlights that the maritime industry has a unique ability to change and innovation.

The Norwegian maritime industry has become a world leader not only at sea but also in and under the sea. Throughout the ages, many have claimed that Norway’s time as a maritime superpower is over. It has always proved to be wrong. The maritime industry today has never been stronger, and is currently employing more than 100,000 people,Solstad says.

“I am proud and humbled by the confidence the General Assembly has given me to be NSA ‘s figurehead , and look forward to take on this important task. Along with the rest of the board and the employees of the NSA, I look forward to continuing the major efforts to manage the industry’s interests in a good way,” says newly elected president of the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association, Lars Peder Solstad.
