Novatek pens LNG deals with Japanese companies

LNG terminal developer, Novatek, signed memorandums of understanding with two Japanese companies to cooperate on LNG projects in Russia. 

Novatek’s CEO, Leonid Mikhelson noted that the company has made an important step in developing its strategic partnership with Japanese companies.

“Novatek’s prolific hydrocarbon resource base, the successful implementation of the Yamal LNG project and our experience in navigating the Northern Sea Route create a great platform for developing mutually beneficial cooperation in LNG projects,” Mikhelson said.

Japan, the world’s largest importer of liquefied natural gas, Mikhelson adds, has significant experience in LNG technologies, marketing and logistics.

Through its cooperation with Mitsubishi Corporation to pursue strategic cooperation for implementing LNG projects in Russia and supplying LNG and liquid hydrocarbons, Novatek is looking to implement its long-term projects.

Under its MoU with Mitsui, Novatek, the operator of the Yamal LNG project intends to pursue strategic cooperation in the upstream and liquefaction sectors in Russia, LNG and liquid hydrocarbons supply, equipment and technology supply as well as joint development of LNG markets.
